In Ghana, Shell Ghana Limited (SGL) products and services are provided by Vivo Energy, a Shell licensee.

The Vivo Energy story is an African story – one of robust demographic trends driving dynamic and sustained growth, in a continent on the move. Our business brings together the power of one of the world’s great brands and the flexibility of a vibrant, entrepreneurial corporate culture. All set against the backdrop of surging demand in one of the world’s fastest-growing regions.

Shell Ghana Limited (SGL) established itself in Ghana in 1928, at which time the country was known as the Gold Coast. Shell Ghana Limited (SGL) is an Operating Company of the Royal/Dutch Shell Group and was incorporated in 1963. It is primarily a downstream operation without a refinery and only a very limited number of fuel depots and has over the years transformed both in business activity and organisational structure. SGL acquired the assets of Texaco Ghana Limited in 1988 making it the clear market leader for several years.

Established in 2011, Vivo Energy is the company behind the Shell brand, and now also the Engen brand, in multiple African markets. We source, distribute, market and supply high quality fuels and lubricants to retail and commercial customers – making their experience with us more convenient and rewarding.

The Group has a network of over 2,100 service stations in 23 countries across North, West, East and Southern Africa, and exports lubricants to a number of other African countries. Focused on fuelling Africa’s future, we make our customers’ lives easier and their experience with us more convenient, enjoyable and rewarding.

The Shell Petroleum Company UK (SPCo) has 82.3% shareholding in SGL. The balance is held by some 950+ shareholders of which the Ghana Commercial Bank, through its subsidiary Development Finance and Holdings Limited, is the largest single shareholder with a 9% shareholding.

Focus on the Mining business has resulted in the establishment of 5 on-site depots in the Western and Ashanti Regions to provide appropriate services to the sector from the Tarkwa based office.

The word Shell, the pecten emblem, and our distinctive red and yellow colours represent our high quality products and services. We are judged by how we act, and our reputation is upheld by how we put into practice our core values of honesty, integrity and respect for people.
