Population levels and growth rate in Ghana, Accra metro area has been increasing very slightly for the past few years according to United Nations population projections.
From about 180,000 people in 1950, it shot up to 400,000 people in 1960. By 1970, there were a little over 631,0000 residents in the city. Then there were 863,000 in 1980.
We crossed the one million residents mark in 1990 to reach 1.2 million people, and nearly 1.7 million by the year 2000.
The 2010 census discovered 2,060,000 Accra residents. Population experts say there are 2,514,000 living in Accra today in 2020. The next 10 years will see our number come to nearly 3.2 million people.
